Together, Derek Ford with Run Wild Fitness, and Audrey Cotter with Energize Wellness have been serving the Extra Toughs program (gynecologic and breast cancer survivors) with a health and wellness program that has assisted these amazing women in decreasing their rates of cancer recurrence through weight loss, a reduction in critical lab values, an elevation of mindset and coping skills, and an enhancement in community support and friendships.
As a R.N. of 16 years, Audrey has seen the need on the front end for health and wellness programs specifically designed to help individuals in the challenging transition of living with a risk of or health diagnosis.
Cancer survivors, diabetics, heart disease clients, individuals who struggle with mental health, new moms, at risk teens, are just a few of the groups of individuals we envision serving!
The program includes small group customizable fitness classes and nutrition and mindset classes in a small group setting, and support groups.
Life changes when we commit to our health. That commitment is more easily facilitated through guided support of fun, energetic, and knowledgable professionals with like minded group members.
We help you activate your most Wild Energized Life through this systematic approach!
We look forward to serving you!

Dr. Mary Wegner moved to Alaska in 1989 for what she thought would be a year or so, and fell in love with the people and landscape. Getting gynecologic cancer in 2020 inspired a career shift, and after a 35 year career in public education working as a teacher and district administrator she moved to Juneau where she currently serves as faculty in higher education. Being a member of Extra Toughs is a significant support for Mary as she learns to thrive after cancer. Mary sits on the Juneau Human Rights Commission and serves on a variety of boards that contribute to equity, personal and community health, and resources for educators.

I am a stage 4 breast cancer survivor on active treatment for 6 years. This group has helped me by educating me on the ways I can help my body fight back and recover using nutrition.
Alongside nutrition, the exercise portion of the program takes it even further. My activity is sometimes limited so this has been a great way for me to maintain more strength and flexibility.
Finally, the mental health component is critical in helping me to navigate the full range of emotions I deal with throughout this journey. It is so important to be there for each other and the support we get in this area is unparalleled.
